33,000-Dollar Winners in U.S. Puzzle Contest Coming to New Zealand

(Rec. 9.40) NEW YORK, Nov. 11. A thirty-three thousand dollar first prize in a puzzle contest .will be used in part, to finance a trip to New Zealand of a New Zealand gill and hei American husband, James Nickerson and their live-year-old daughter, of Port Washington, New York. Mrs Nickerson was formerly Kathleen Gordon Smith, of Jubilee Road, Khandallah, Wellington, and she married Mr Nickerson tollowing a visit to America in 1940. Mr Nickerson was presented with the cheque to-day by General Jonathan Wainwright, hero of Bataan, and National Commander of the Disabled American Veterans’ National Service Foundation, which sponsored the contest. Mrs Nickerson told the American Associated Press that she had not yet worked out details of the trip because of “the suddenness of it all.” She said: “I am just trying to decide how to tell mother th e good news. I don't want to cable or telephone her because she has a bad heart.”
