26 NEW POLICE

P.A. WELLINGTON, Oct. 12 T wenty-six police constaoles to-day left the New Zealand Police Training College at Newtown, Wellington, alter a three months’ course to take up their duties throughout the Dominion. The “graduates” were addressed by the Acting Minister of Police, the Rt. Hon. W. Nash, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr R. F. Madden. Since the college reopened in 1946, a ■ total of 325 recruits has passed through its doors. The best type of recruit .according to the college tutor, Senior-Sergeant Prater, is a reliable man of good physique, who is always willing and even tempered. “We always need recruits of the right type to safeguard human property, and there will always be this need as long as there are human rights,” he said.
