£300 Obtained By False Cheques
P.A. TAUMARUNUI, Oct. 12. At the Taumarunui Court to-day, Thomas Frederick Ellis, a labourer, 53, was committed for sentence at Wellington on eleven charges of obtaining goods and money to the value of 1304 from Taumarunui shopkeepers. Accused opened an account at a bank with a deposit of £2O, and obtained a cheque book. He cashed a number of large cheques and obtained goods with the balance in cash from shopkeepers. The goods included two radios, a diamond ring, and a suit of clothes.
