GREY HOSPITAL BOARD’S MEETING
The Greymouth Hospital Board met last night. Mr A. Mosley (chairman) was appointed delegate to the annual conference of the Hospital Boards’ Association, to be held in May. Sister J. M. Cleary accepted the bursary for Flunket training, and agreed to accept two years’ appointment. with the Board, as sister in charge of the children’s ward. A donation of £2 2's towards the Christmas cheer fund was received from Kodak (N.Z.), Ltd. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT Dr S. Barclay (Surgeon-Superin-tendent) reported that three cases of poliomyelitis had been admitted during the month. Visiting restrictions had been imposed, after consultation with the Medical Officer of Health (Christchurch \ Should further cases occur, it. was proposed to use the Hannan Ward, and accommodate urgent children’s cases in other wards Admittance of cases for tonsil and adenoid operations would be suspended. Statistical: Patients remaining at end of August were 95 in hospital, and 24 in the Old People’s Home; patients admitted during September, 183 and 1, patients discharged, 167 and 2, died, 4 and 1, remaining end of Seotember, 107 and 22; total under treatment, 278 and 25. Physiotherapy department: Outpatients 512; in-patients 61; total 573- Operating theatre: General 65: E.N.T. 22; dental 9; orthopaedic 36; total 132’. Bacteriological: In-patients 167; out-patients 59; other hospitals 32; private doctors 39; Health Department 1; nurses' health records 3; total 301. Radiography: In-patients 107: out-patients 255; screenings 32; films 522: exposures 635, Outpatients: Total visits 631. PETTY THEFTS The Board agreed to the following recommendations from Dr Barclay: That, the position of surgical registrar be'advertised; that the police be advised of a number of petty thefts that had taken place in and about the hospital. .Matron N. F. Moffatt’s recommendations were approved: That Sister E M. Allitt be appointed night sister, and that Sister M. O’Grady be granted permission to attend the refresher course for ward sisters in Wellington from February 7 to February 11. 1948. McBREARTY ANNEXE Matron T. N. Hughes, of the McBrearty Annexe, reported that 40 patients were admitted, and 48 babies born, including two sets of twins. This made nine sets of twins since February. Patients remaining on September 30 were 26 mothers and 26 babies. There had been 86 ante-natal visits.
