CROQUET Cobden Season Opens
The Cobden Croquet Green was the scene of activity on Saturday, when the local club held its opening day. Representatives from all district clubs were present, as well as members of the West Coast Centre, Cobden Bowling Club’, and Cobden lady bowlers. Mrs Higgins (president) extended a welcome to the visitors, expressing the hope that the season would prove to be an enjoyable one; Mrs Duncan played the first ball and the season was declared open. The visitors were well catered for in the way of competitions, and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. During the serving of afternoon tea, Mrs McCarrigan and Mr T. Halliday contributed vocal solos. The green and surroundings were in excellent order, and presented a pleasing picture with the large number present. The winners of the various competitions were.—Putting, Mrs Mercer, Croquet in the rain, Mesdames Lemon and Alderson. Rugged hoops, Mrs White snr.; treasure hunt, Mrs Galbraith; round the clock, Mrs Higson. On behalf of the visitors, Mesdames Mercer, Erickson and Alderson expressed thanks for the interesting afternoon provided.
