The whitebait season up to the present time has been anything but bright. The sea has been very rough along the coast, and is at the present time very favourable in far South Westland'. The fishermen are having better luck than formerly. About the beginning of last week about 150 large size boxes were sent forward to Christchurch. Fifty boxes of the above consignment were netted by a young girl in the southern area. Mr J. Codvre, mechanic at thegpad Services garage here, received trie sad news on Friday afternoon of the death of his sister, which took place at Wellington. The deceased youjig larlv was a leading airwoman stationed‘in the North Island. Her brother left for Christchurch on Friday night to be 'present at the funeral, which took place at Christchurch on Monday morning. Within the next couple of months it is the intention of a local farmer to open a butchery business in this locality. It is about eight years since the residents have had a local butcher, and the majority are looking forward to obtaining theii’ supplies locally, instead of relying on outside supplies. The residents here are going in for an electricity supply in the near future. The site has been selected at Bell’s Creek, a couple of miles above the Big Wanganui River bridge. Messrs Jellie (Hokitika),, along with R. Searle and J. Martini, local residents, have been canvassing the flat during the past week to ascertain from each likely consumer what power will be required on the' farm. Miss B. McLean, of the South Island Herd Testing Association, has arrived in this area to test the cows for the coming season. Mrs M. Diedrich has returned home after receiving medical treatment at Christchurch. Mrs J. Peterson has returned after naying a visit to Christchurch.

Mr E. Black, of Okarito. was a week-end visitor. ~, Mr and Mrs Delamain. of Christchurch, have arrived at Tetaho, having taken over the farming property formerly held by Mr A. J. Chinn. Mr and Mrs L. Robertson are on a visit to Christchurch. Mr M. Connolly is a patient in the Westland Hospital. Mr C. Hende has returned from Greymouth.
