Girl Guides’ Membership Increases
The Provincial Commissioner of the Westland Girl Guide Association (Mrs L. Schaef), in her annual report to the Association stated that there had been a big increase in membership. The roll was now 320, an increase of 109 on the previous year. Mrs Schaef added that the Iles Shield was competed for by the First Greymouth, the Brownie Trophy went to Hokitika. The Association had raised £lO 10s for the U.N.O. appeal. The visit of the World Chief Guide was an outstanding success, she said and resulted in many new recruits. Thanks were extended to the press badge examiners, the hall committee, the broadcasting station and all who had helped during the year. The Westland guides had combined with the scouts to publish an enlarged edition of Kia Kua, the provincial magazine, with a circulation of 800. ELECTION OF OFFICERS President, Mrs F.
