Seven Prime Ministers at London Talks
LONDON, Oct. 10. A quarter of the world’s population will be represented by statesmen from nine countries at the formal opening of the Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ conference at 10 Downing Street. The statesmen will include seven Prime Ministers, as Mr MackenzieKing cannot attend because of illness. It would have been Mr Mackenzie King’s last important official engagement before retiring as Canad’an" Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister of Australia, Mr Chiflev. and South Africa’s .Prime Minister, Dr D. F. Malan, are also not attending. MR MACKENZIE KING ILL
The Canadian Prime Minister, Mr Mackenzie King, has been ordered a complete rest on the advice of his medical adviser and wil be unable to take part in the meetings of the Commonwealth Prime Ministers. An official statement from his London office said that Mr Mackenzie King’s health had suffered from the long strain of affairs. This had been aggravated by an attack of influenza
during the voyage to England. The condition of his circulation was causing concern. It is understood that another member of the Canadian Government will come to Britain to take his place at the conference. , . Meanwhile, Mr Norman Roberta son, Canadian High Commissioner, will represent Canada. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Stafford Cripps, in an exhaustive review to the conference alter the opening- will touch upon tne relationship of European recovery to British Commonwealth recovery and plans deal with with thei dollar position as it affects the sterling area.
