ITALY’S INABILITY TO RAISE PAY FOR STATE EMPLOYEES
ROME, Oct. 9. The Italian Chamber of Deputies by 255 votes to 98, rejected a Left Wing motion for an immediate salary increase of 53s a month for State employees. The Prime Minister (Mr de Gasperi) said that Italy could not face the enormous cost which the increase would entail without imperilling the stability of the lira.
