TRAFFIC FATALITIES 155 THIS YEAR

P.A. WELLINGTON, October 7. Fourteen persons died in traffic accidents during September, which brought the total of road deaths for this year to one hundred and fiftyfive, said the Minister of Transport, Hon. F. Hackett, to-day. Pie added that it was gratifying that there was an overall , reduction in the traffic deaths for the first nine months of 1948, but there had been a considerable increase in pedestrian deaths, particularly in Auckland city, where the total was twenty for this year, or more than one-third of the total for New Zealand. The number of deaths among motor cyclists showed a reduction of 25 per cent, compared with 1 947 - . , “There is still room for a further reduction in traffic deaths”, said the Minister. “I would ask everyone to take greater care to help cut down our accidents still further”.
