Constable Uses Mother-in-law To Catch Thief
AUCKLAND, Oct. 7 George Henry Bennett Morgan, aged 4(, was committed for trial when he appeared in the Magistrate s Court this morning charged with breaking and entering ana oi goods, mainly cigarettes and tobacco, from a grocer’s shop. He pleaded n °A constable 'gave evidence that at 1.30 a.m. on July 23 he saw a torchlight flashing in a shop when he was returning from the police ball He posted his mother-in-law at the front and went to the back of theshop. He heard his mother-in-law cry out and gave chase when he saw a man disappearing down the street. The accused was overcome after a struggle in which the constable s mother-in-law hit the accused on the head with a torch.
