Five Clubs Raided In a Week
P.A. NEW PLYMOUTH, Oct. 7 The lock-up at the Taumarunui Police Station is to-night heavily stocked with liquor. This has been seized by the police in a series' of raids on clubs in the district. The clubs concerned to-day were the Taumarunui Cosmopolitan Club; the Taumarunui and District R.S.A. Club, and the Taumarunui Club.
The operation began shortly after 3 p.m., when a Senior Sergeant and two constables entered the Cosmopolitan Club, inspected the premises and entered the bar, which was thereupon closed. Sometime later a truck drew tip at the rear of the club, and the party loaded cases of liquor, which were taken to the police station. Similar action was taken in turn, at the two other clubs. A total of five Central King Country Clubs has now been raided. The Matiere and Ohura Cosmopolitan Cmp s have been visited by the police within the last week.
