NEW TOWN CLERK FOR GREYMOUTH IS APPOINTED

The appointment of Mr Noel Ernest Clemens, of Kaiapoi, to the omce o± Town cierx oi urreyniouui was announced last evening by the . Mayor, Mr F. F. Boustridge. The appointment was made by the rsorougn council v.l a special meeting last evening, wne.y three other applicants were also interviewect Dy the council. Mr Clemens, who is to succeed Mr F. m. uenton, when the resignation of the latter takes etfect, it at present rowii clerk ot Kaiapoi, a position which he has held tor tne past tour ana a-half years. Born 39 years ago in Christchurch, he was employed, after leaving High School, in the oince of the Christchurch Tramway Board. He held that position tor seventeen and a-halt yeais, rising to the position of accountant. Last evening, Mr Clemens said that he had visited the West Coast on several occasions in the past, and had since his first visit, been very favourably impressed with the hospitality found here. In order to reach Greymouth in time for the interview he had to get up at 12 o'clock on Wednesday evening. Mr Clemens is returning to Kaiapoi this evening and meantime arrangements are being made as to the date on which he is to assume his new duties. A married man with two children, Mr Clemens remarked that he hoped to obviate any housing-difficulty by making an exchange of one in Christchurch for one in Greymouth.
