More Power Used
During September 28335 units of electric power more than in September 1947, were used in Westport, reported the Electrical Engineer, Mr. T. Dobson, to the Westport Borough Council. Units generated at Fairdown were j 07130 in 1947 and 58520 in 1948 and those received from Denniston increased from 97342 in September 1947 to 174287 last month. The Garvey Utopia high tension line had been dismantled and all material brought' into town for use on other sections, such as the new 11 k.w. line in Fonblanque Street. Some of the poles have been erected in the State housing block. Approval for the erection of the Fonblanque Street 11,000-volt had been been received from the State Hydro-electric Department and it was hoped to commence this work in October, the transformer having been ordered for mme and being due to arrive about December.
