Prime Ministers’ Conference To Last a Fortnight

LONDON, October 5

Vital discussions on foreign policy, defence and economics will be held in the first three plenary sessions of the Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ conference which opens at No. 10 Downing Street on October 11, says Reuter’s political correspondent. The Commonwealth leaders are now on their way to London by air for what is expected to be the most significant conference of its kind ever held in Britain.

Sir Stafford Cripps is returning from America this week to address the Prime Ministers on British Commonwealth and world economics. Mr Ernest Bevin is returning from Paris to confer with them on the international situation, and Mr Attlee will address the conference on defence.

The plans for the conference, which are still tentative, indicate that the talks will be spread over a fortnight.
