GREYMOUTH TECHNICAL SCHOOL CLOSED: PUPIL WITH POLIO.
Greymouth Technical High School was closed yesterday for two weeks, following the admittance to Grey Hospital of a girl pupil aged 13, suffering from Poliomyelitis. She comes from Blackball. It is a mild positive case, without paralysis. This is the fifth positive case in the Grey district notified in the past six weeks. Mr W. M. Stewart, principal of the Technical High School, said yesterday that the day school would be closed, but classes at the primary schools’ manual training centre and evening school would continue as usual. The school hostel, which housed 36 country children, had been closed and the pupils had been advised to avoid crowds and entertainment. The annual boxing tournament, which was to have been held yesterday, was postponed. The public are warned to ensure that they wash their hands before eating, after the bowels have moved, and not to mix with crowds. It is especially necessary that children should be taught to follow these rules. NEW AUCKLAND CASE AUCKLAND, Oct. 6 A boy aged two and a-half years, of Mount Eden ,has been declared a positive case of poliomyelitis.
