Applications Granted By Westland Land Sales Committee
The transfer of the license of the Buck’s Head Hotel, Taylorville, from C. E. Senior (Mr C. R. McGinley) to J. Stapleton, for £4OOO, was granted by the Westland Land Sales Committee, at its sitting in Greymouth yesterday. There was no evidence to show that the property was worth £5300, said the chairman (Mr M. Wallace), in dealing with the application by L. McVicar (Mr McGinley) for the transfer of the Heatherbell Hotel, Totara Flat, to A. Ramsay, of Greymouth.
For the Crown (Mr A. E. Wogan), said that the value of the 43 acres involved was only £l7 an acre. The total value was therefore £7OO, and the whole property was valued at £2378.
Mr McGinley agreed to accept £5OOO, which was £3BOO for the property at its original price, and £l2OO for the stock.
On a rental basis of £4 a week, the hotel would be worth £2,200 to which must be added the value of furniture and livestock as fixed by Mr. C. L. Kettle, £1,130, said Mr. McGinley. The land itself had been valued on a budgetary basis by Mr. John Brown at £2,000. The committee, after consideration, fixed the price at £4,460, reserving to the vendor, the right to reopen the matter. ■ William Griffen (Mr A.. M. Jamieson) applied to sell a house at Gladstone to N.Z. Concrete Pipes Ltd. (Mr McGinley) for £l4OO. The Crown valuation was £1265. After hearing evidence the committee granted the sale at £1360.
