CRICKET Women's Assn's. Annual Meeting And Election of Officers
The annual meeting of the West Coast Women’s Cricket Association was held last evening. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted as being satis factory. It was decided that travelling arrangements be held over until the delegates’ meeting, when a discussion with the representatives of Hokitika and Blackball would be held - alto that the various clubs be approached in an endeavour to have all the matches started by 1.30 p.m. NEW SHIELD FOR
COMPETITION A new shield for the main competition was donated by Mr J. J. Ryan. Members expressed their keen appreciation. It was decided to elect Mr Ryan as an honorary vice-president of the Association. The shield will be known as the Margaret Mary Ryan Memorial Challenge Shield. The Dittman Cup will be competed for in the one-round competition. The New Zealand Women’s Cricket Association wrote statin°- that Greymouth had fulfilled its quota of £5O required to finance the English-' women’s tour of New Zealand early next year. The letter stated £5OO was reauired, and that to date £427 6s had been raised. Canterbury had yet to raise £29 8s and Otago £59 12s. It was decided that, before any player - could represent the West Coast at cricket she would have to be a financial member. A letter was received from the Auckland Women's Cricket Association requesting a match against a West Coast team at Greymouth to ba played in December. The Canterbury Association also wrote requesting that West Coast representatives play/ Canterbury at Christchurch earlyi next monh. It was resolved that the Canterbury Association be informed that the date mentioned was too early and that December would be more appropriate. It was decided that if this proved satisfactory, a West Coast B. team be fielded against Auckland, at Greymouth while the A. team was playing Canterbury, at Christchurch. The Auckland team was reported to consist of junior players. It was resolved all clubs be notified to send in the name of one of their members in order that a sole selector might be elected at the next meeting.
A motion that there should be a committee of three to act as selectors was defeated by five votes to four.
Votes of thanks were accorded to Mr L. Coffey, the selectors, the Christchurch delegates and Messrs J. J. Ryan, L. Dittman and the Press.
Mr W. A. Meates (jnr.), was congratulated on his selection in the All Blacks. ELECTION OF OFFICERS
