BLACKBALL NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent). BLACKBALL, October 4. The Ladies Committee of the Domain amenities bazaar are having a busy time at present, collectingarticles and materials for the forthcoming bazaar and, as the time draws closer, so shall their activities increase Mesdames Mason and Mountford have met with strong support from the Greymouth merchants and business people in general, while the local people have risen loyally to the support of this latest local effort. Messrs R Mountford and R. Duncan have, also been very busy canvassing the licensed victuallers in Greymouth and district for the same object and have met with great success. Altogether the bazaar appears to be going to be one of the highlights in pur civic life and the people are looking forward with keen interest to the event. Next Saturday evening will see many Labourites and their fi lends converging on Blackball whep thei local branch of the Labour Party puts on its rally. Other branches of the party in the district are likely to be well represented. As well as being Blackball branch’s turn to 1 entertain, opportunity will also be taken to unveil an enlarged colourphotograph of the Hon. P. C. Webb. It is also worthy of note that the Blackball Black Diamond Frolics has kindly consented to put on an hour s entertainment for the visitors. Th ls company is making quite a name for itself and should add greatly towards making the forthcoming evening one to be remembered with every degree of pleasure. 'Pho ordinary monthly meeting ol the Blackball Domain Board took place in the Miners’'Union Office on Sunday morning, and was presided over by Mr R. Mountford, senior. Reports were tabled relative to the forthcoming bazaar, all of which proved to be very satisfactory. Owing to the closing of the local Domain as from September 26, it was not possible to accommodate the Denniston Schoolboys, but the Ngahere board ca,me to the rescue and the game was played over there, many Blackball people taking advantage of the lovely day to go over and view the match. During their stay in the district, the Denniston boys are being billitted out; among friends in Blackball. _.n- and Mrs S. Walker, of Eltham. who have been visiting their relatives Mr and Mrs B. Walker, Hart Street, have left on their return. Messrs B. J. Williams, of Brodie [ Street, T. Frickleton, Clifford St., and W. Brown, Main St., have all been discharged from Grey River Hospital and are convalesing at their own homes. . Mrs D. Eeale and Mr R. Clark were present at the ceremony at the grave of the late Hon Jim O’Brien, marking Ihe first anniversary of his death, last Tuesday. . , Mrs D. Nicol, of Timaru, is spending a holiday with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs W. Brown, Main Road. . The greengrocery business (mobile? so successfully carried on for a lengthy period by Mr Jack Lowe, ol Edwin Street, has been taken over by Mr Alan J. Brown of Oamaru. Mr Brown is not exactly a stranger here, as he was employed in the Railways Department, in this district for a number of years, before returning south. . Mr and Mrs J. Lowe and son Eawm Street, are at present staying with Mr and Mrs W. Lowe at. Te Kinga, prior to removing to Hamilton, North Island, where they intend to reside in future. Mr George Smith has entered the Grey River Hospital for treatment. His many friends wish him a speedy recovery. x The 'film version of the Kiwis tour through England and France was shown in the Miners’ Hall on Tuesday evening, and was much appreciated by a fairly large audience, who were regaled by a running commentry on games and places. by Mr W. S. McClymont of Auckland. Our West Coast boys had a great reception.
