Sailed Tog Without Permit
AUCKLAND, October 1
Two men who sailed the tug Karoro from Gisborne tn. Auckland without notifying the Gisborne port authorities or the Marine Department were charged in the Magistrate’s Court to-dav with operating the vessel without, a certficate of seaworthiness and without a certified master. They were Lewis Graham the owner, and a former engineer of the scow Margaret W., and Jack Goldstone Fenner who navigated the Karoro.
Defending counsel said that Graham bought the Karoro for ;> pelasure craft and the accused were unaware that a certificate was required. The Magistrate, Mr W. Carroll Harvey, remarking, “This is more or less a technical offence” fined each of the accused £2 10s and costs on each ohaipe. “This ife (not the kind of feat that should be encouraged,” the Magistrate added.
