No Atomic Research in Australia

CANBERRA, October 1. The leader of the Country Party, Mr. A. W. Fadden, quoted in the House of Representatives documents stating that while in England recently. the Prime Minister, Mr. J. B. Chifley, discussed with the British Cabinet, America’s reluctance to give secret atomic information to Australia.

After an angry debate, Mr. Chifley intervened and said: “I never discussed atomic energy in England. It was not one of the subjects I went there to discuss.”

Mr. Chifley said he did not think the Opposition could have made a more disgraceful move. There was no possibility of atomic research being undertaken in Australia. There was no truth in the suggestion that there had been a leakage from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
