West Europe Union Defence Scheme Is Radical One

Steps to complete the Western Union defence system are expected to follow on military decisions reached at Paris last week, says “The Observer’s’’ nolitical correspondent. One of them may be the setting up of a general economic staff to plan the manufacture .of armaments and the supply of raw materials. The Permanent Military Committee will deal with problems of production, procurement and equipment. It is this initial work which is expected to lead to some form of a supply board for the whole Western Union. The committee probably will meet regularly. and work out the strategy and tactics to be followed in the event of war. One plan envisages the possibility of losing the whole European main-' land. SCANDINAVIAN DEFENCE. The Associated Press correspondent at Copenhagen says: The Danish. Swedish and Norwegian Ministers of Defence will probably meet at Oslo on October 15 to discuss possible Scandinavian defence plans.
