LEAGUE FOOTBALL Film of Kiwi Tour Proves a Draw

The film of the 1947 Kiwi tour of Engianci and France, depicting many nigiiiignts oi the games, including the Test matches, attracted over oud people to the Wesley Hall last evening. several parts oi the nlm were in techmcoiour, and interesting scenes were shown of the country anu cities in France and the rural grandeur or England. A screening in techmcoiour or the tour through the Riviera and Geneva was particularly illuminating.

Most interesting of all were 'the Test matches, and the high standard of play shown oy the Kiwis and Englishmen alike. Of particular interest were the various types of grounds on which the matches in England were played, and the efforts used to Keep frost off the fields. In one case the whole field was covered with straw, while, in another, fires were lit in 40gallon oil drums in an effort to thaw out the field. .a The commentary was ably given by Mr. T. H. McClymont, who accompanied the team throughout its tour as coach and photographer. He was introduced by Mr. T. F. McKenzie, who thanked him for his efforts in bringing the film to the West Coast. Several action shots showed the West Coasters engaged in scoring moves against the Englishmen, and these brought forth rounds of applause. A high tribute was paid by Mr. McClymont to Peter Mountford. The Kiwis won all their big games with Peter behind the scrum. In moving a vote of thanks, at the conclusion of the film, Mr. L. Hunter, who was manager of the team, congratulated the commentator. In reply, Mr. McClymont said that if the audience had enjoyed the film the Rugby League would feel more than repair, as it was realised that it was the people at home who kept the game going. He thanked 9 the Marist Brothers’ Sports Organisation for the loan of its projector.
