VANDALS DESTROY VALUABLE SUITINGS

AUCKLAND. Sept 30.

Bolts of cloth and suits valued at over 400 were slashed to ribbons by vandals who broke into the Regent 'Clothing Company’s workrooms Tn the city last night. Nothing is reported to have been stolen, although a futile attempt was made to open a safe which contained £lO. Sixteen bolts of tweeds and worsteds and also six grey suits were slashed with dagger-like knives normally used for cutting out suitings. Most of the bolts were cut to the core. Some of the stock, which came from Britain, was insured only against loss by fire. “The materials are virtually irreplacable because they had been allocated by the mills,” said the manager of the firm, Mr A. J. Shaken. “This is nothing but wanton destruction.”
