KUMARA NOTES

The September meeting of the Kumara Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs. Ollerenshaw. Mrs. Caithness, senr., was appointed delegate to the Westland Federation meeting at Harihari in October. It was decided to hold the birthday party on Thursday afternoon. A letter was read from Conway, thanking members for food parcels received. It was decided to send a donation to the Leper Fund. The President then read the Dominion President’s letter. An entry of flowers was sent to the Horticultural Show in Greymouth. A special award went to the Kumara Institute. The Golden Thread talk sent in by Mrs. Fahey was read by Miss C. Gibson. The A.C.E. box on tapestry was received and viewed by the members. The competitions resulted: For the best bloom, Mrs. Birss 1; Miss C. Gibson 2; Mrs. Ollerenshaw 3. For the best date scones, Mrs. Poole 1; Mrs. Comport 2; Mrs. Reedy 3. Mesdames Birss and D. Caithness were the winners of the social half-hour competition. Supper was served by the hostesses. Mesdames Reedy and Hunter. Miss M. Bell has returned from a holiday visit to Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. S. Cameron have returned from a holiday visit to the North Island.
