Labour Federation Council Business
WELLINGTON, Sept. 20. Trade union policy on national defence and conscription and on wages and prices will be reviewed at a meeting of the National Council of the New Zealand Federation of Labour in Wellington on Wednesday and Thursday. The present approach to the issue of wages and prices is being made by the federation through the retail price index. The council will receive a report from its representatives on the committee set up by the Government to review the index. If it is established that the cost of living has risen sufficiently to justify it, the Court of Arbitration may under the Economic Stabilisation Emergency Regulations grant a general wage increase.
