The funeral of the late William Prendergast took place at Karoro Cemetery on Saturday morning being very largely attended. The Rt. Rev Monsignor J. Long, celebrated Requiem Mass and also officiated at the graveside, assisted by the Rev Fathers McMonagle and Daly.
At his request the New Plymouth Borough Council last night accepted the resignation of its treasurer. Mi’ G. V. Matthews. The Cotpicil had before it as the same time, a report from the Government Audit Inspector regarding the recent defalcations of £17,751 from the Borough funds. — P.A.
Dr. D. D. Perrin, M.Sc., A.R.1.C., A.N.Z.1.C., one of the school’s most distinguished science graduates, who has for some two years been doing research work in chemistry in England, has been awarded the degree of Ph.D., in Physical Chemistry of London University, and next year is to do postgraduate work in Colloid Science at Cambridge, reported the Principal of the Greymouth Technical High School at last evening’s meeting of the Board of Governors. Dr. Perrin was a member of Upper VI. as recently as 1939, and the news of his unbroken series of successes has been a source of great pride to the school, added Mr. Stewart. - - -
