Six Aspirants to U.N.O. Assembly Presidency

(Rec. 5.30) LONDON, Sept. 18. Dr. Evatt (Australia), M. Marie (France) and Dr. Arce (Argentina), are strong contenders for the U.N.O. General Assembly Presidency, for which there has been a battle going on behind the scenes, says the Observer's Paris correspondent. Dr Evatt is certain of British support. He has spared no effort to gather votes for ris election, but the United States is strongly opposed to him, and is likely to vote, in the first round, at least, tor M. Marie. The reason for American opposing Dr Evattt appears to be that an unpredictable attitude has been taken by Australia’s representatives in the United Nations who frequently have supported Russian view. M. Spaak (Belgium) who has been the Assembly’s -outstanding president, Sen or Romulo (Philippines), and M. Bech (Luxembourg), are also In the running.
