Few Teaching Students

Only fifteen of thirty-seven applications for admission to the Teachers’ Training College next year had the necessary academic qualifications, the Secretary of the Nelson Education Board, Mr. H. J. Thornton, reported at this week’s meeting of the Board. The remainder of the applicants were sitting for the School Certificate examination this year. The Board’s quota this year was 36, so it was evident that it would not obtain its quota of students. The chairman (Hon. W. H. McIntyre), said that in past years the Board had always been able to fill its quota and send a number of students to other Education Boards which could not find their share.

There are six applicants from Westport, only one being from Westport Technical College, two from Reefton and none from Granity District High School.
