(Rec 10 0) WASHINGTON, Sept. 16. Atomic progress was . being hamnered by unfair investigations into the loyalty of the atomic scientists, said Mr David Lilienthal, chairman of the United States Atomic Energy Commission to-day. Mr Lilienthal declared that the increasing unwillingness of qualified scientists to work for the Government, because of the investigations, constituted a disturbing situation. The maintenance of America s atomic leadership required a stupenous eif°“The notion that our leadership depends upon a secret formula, locked in a vault, is nothing , less than a gigantic hoax,” Mr Lilienthal said. The commission had its own procedure for keeping out disloyal employees. —
