U.S. ARMY TO LOAD ITS CARGO DESPITE MARITIME STRIKE

(Received September 15, 10.20 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 15 Harry Bridges, . President of the C. 1.0. International Longshoremen’s and Warehousemen’s Union accused the United States Army of “strike breaking” in the thirteen days old Pacific maritime tie-up, arid he threatened that his union would seek to extend its strike • tactics to foreign ports. The U.S. Army has called for individual dock workers to handle a growing backlog of military cargo in the West Coast U.S. ports. A union statement said: “The union intends to resist this strike-breaking with all the resources at its command, including a call to Longshoremen overseas to refuse to unload scab cargo at the port of destination.” The U.S. Army has announced that the loading of cargoes for its Pacific areas will begin to-morrow.
