Mr Francis Wentworth Maslin (Wyn) Cowlishaw, a well-known Christchurch solicitor, collapsed' and died in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning. Mr Cowlishaw made a submission on a point of law in the case in which he was appearing, to the Magistrate, Mr Rex C. Abernethy. Mr Brown, for the prosecution, began his reply, when Mr Cowlishaw slumped forward onto the desk before him. The Magistrate gave instructions for a doctor to be called, but when Dr. A. Thompson arrived, Mr Cowlishaw was dead. Mr Cowlishaw’s father, the late Mr F. I. Cowlishaw, died while attending a public function two years, ago. Mr Wyn Cowlishaw was associated with the legal firm of Carrick Cowlishaw and Company, of which his father had also been a principal. He lived all his life in Christchurch, and was well-known in his younger days for his interest in rowing, and m amateur theatricals. A member of Canterbury Rowing Club, Mr Cowlishaw was captain of the club at the same time as his father was president. Mr Cowlishaw is survived by his wife and by two brothers, Mr J. Cowlishaw, resident in Australia, and Mr lon Cowlishaw, of Christchurch. —P.A.
