Offer of Aircrews From New Zealand
WELLINGTON Sept 6. The services of three aircrews to assist in the Berlin air-lift have been offered to Britain by the New Zealand Government. The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, said that- it was not known whether these additional aircrews would be required, but the Government felt certain that New Zealand would want to offer this assistance if the United Kingdom authorities should need it. ‘■‘Everyone,” said Mr Fraser, “will share the 1 admiration of the Government for the magnificent way m which the United Kingdom and United States authorities have by tne air-lift, maintained supplies for the Allied zones in Berlin, and have kept the services and industries running there. “I hope, of course, that the negotiations. that have been proceeding between the four major Powers will succeed and that normal communications can be 1 resumed between Berlin and the west. But till this occurs the air-lift must be maintained and New Zealand will, if required, be willing to make some contribution to continuing it.”
