WATAROA NOTES
[Our own Correspondent! WATAROA, Sept 7. South Westland’s weather has been all that could be desired with very hot sunny days giving great growth everywhere. The whitebait runs are commencing in most of the southern rivers. Mr Alan Richards, of the Foi’ks Hotel is leaving for Okuru to ush for Messrs W. D. Nolan and Sons. The Kiwi Rugby team from Hokitika, which was defeated at the week-end by Wataroa proved a very fine lot of chaps who had a thoroughly enjoyable visit. A Catholic sale of work is being held on October 16 with cake, fruit, vegetable, sewing, and art stalls. Afternoon tea is to be provided by th e ladies and in the evening a wind-up dance will be held, for which the Fox Glacier Orchestra has been engaged. Mr James Donovan, of Okarito who has a farm in Lower Wataroa topped the Addington market last Wednesday. He is to be commended on his achievement in showing what this district can do. A new digger has been sent to Waiho to complete the deviation in hand by the Works Department. The road beyond the hostel became dangrous during the last heavy floods, which caused a number of big slips.
