Commerce Chambers Want Silence On Price Reductions

WELLINGTON, Sept. 7 The general effect on New Zea? land’s economy, and on Importers in particular, of the Government’s action in appreciating New Zealand currency to sterling parity, was discussed at the latest meeting of the executive of the Associated Chamber of Commerce of New Zealand. The following decisions were reported:— 1 ‘That the Associated Chambers ask the Minister of Industries and Commerce to discuss with sectional trade organisations the procedure for issuing price orders affected by exchange, before any such price schedules are published. 2. That the Minister be requested to make no further statements anticipating early price reductions because of the retarding effect on clearing present stocks and its effect on employment, until such discussions have been held with trade groups 3. That the Government be requested to confer similarly with trade groups on import licensing Questions arising from the exchange decision.
