MALAY TERRORISTS MAKE NEW ATTACK

[N.Z.P.A.—Reuter Cabell. (Received September 7, 11.35 p.m.) SINGAPORE, September 7. Two Gurkhas died of wounds last night when terrorists ambushed a military patrol twelve miles from Ipoh. . , , Terrorists last night attacked an estate near Batu Pahat, in Northwest Johore. They burned down the estate factory and other buildings.. An official casualty list issued m Kuala Lumpur to-night said three bandits were killed in the. last 24 hours, bringing the total since the Malayan emergency was declared to 140 killed and 79 wounded. In the Communist-infested Mentakab area in Pahang, the police reported that thirty Chinese .armed with pistols and rifles, abducted a Chinese rubber tapper and a Chinese contractor, took them to the jungle, shot them- and left them for dead. The alleged treachery of Chinese guides to-day fouled two attempts made by troops of the Malay Regiment in the Bentong district to come to grips with important wanted Communists operating in Pahang State. Both guides were arrested. One of the guides shouted a warning as he led the Malay patrol in force down a steep jungle-covered hill to a clevef’ly-camouflaged terrorist camp. Two other guides ran forward and beat on a drum in a nearby village as another Malay force began to close in on what was suspected to be terrorist headquarters.
