Dutch Crowds Welcome Princess Margaret at Amsterdam
LONDON, Sept. 6 Princess Margaret new to Amster-' dam in a King’s Flight Viking to-day to attend the Dutch Royal ' ceremonies as her first big engagement alone outside Britain. Special security measures were in force at the London airport when the Princess was leaving. Uniformed and plain-clothes metropolitan airport police were on duty round the Viking and airport buildings. The Princess’s standard flew from the airport masthead and as she boarded the plane a smaller standard was raised over the cockpit. Lhe Princess was more than the usual “V.1.P.” at the airport. ■ Her visit was marked on all duty sheets as “V.1.P.1.”I—a 1 —a Very Important Person Indeed. Two thousand people watched Princess Margaret arrive at Amsterdam. A Dutch schoolgirl presented her with a bouquet of pink carnations. Large crowds waiting in the streets, at the windows; on the rooftops and near the hotel where she is staying roared a welcome as her car passed them. All the Royal guests and most of the special missions for Queen Juliana’s investiture have now arrived. Most of them are staying at the same hotel as Princess Margaret, where 5a newly-decorated rooms have been reserved for them. Queen Juliana will be enthroned tomorrow. WELLINGTO n, Sept. 6 The Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) and several members of the Cabinet, in addition to the diplomatic corps, will be present this evening when the Netherlands Charge d’Affaires. Dr W. Arriens, will hold a reception in honour of the succession of Queen Juliana. ■
