Czech Crowds Mourn Dr. Benes

PRAGUE, Sept. 5 Thousands from Prague and the surrounding countryside formed _a two-mile queue and filed Past Dr Benes’s embalmed body at Sezlmoyo Usti to-day. They came in special trains, buses, lorries, carts, bicycles and on foot. The body lay with its face visible in a richly-carved coffin. Troops and two Sokol representatives stood guarding the coffin. All Czech garrisons paraded to-day to hear an army order signed by President Gottwald and the Defence Minister, General Svoboda, praising ‘‘our .great statesman, philosopher and thinker,” and declaring: "We shall guard..his.legacy—the peoples Democratic Republic.”
