Clergyman "Casts His Bread”

BRISBANE The Rev. Lewis A. Born. Methodist Minister of Moorooka. Brisbane, eave his congregation sixty 10s notes during a recent, service in a modern adaptation of the parable of the talents. He hones that the' 60 recipients will “wisely invest” the notes and return him £9O in seven weeks —the £3O he. gave out, plus £6O with which he will liquidate a debt on the church. Mr Born recently asked church officers to vote him £3O “to be invested in a scheme to be disclosed later.” The church officers voted the money, and Mr Born disclosed his scheme, after reading to the congregation the parable of the master who gave his servants talents to mind for him while he was away. (Matt. 25-14) •_ Then th? church stewards took around collecting plates, but, instead of collecting they gave away 10s notes. Mr Born *told the congregation. that in seven week’s time he would hold another special service, when it would be seen whether the “talents” had grown to £9O, sufficient to wipe off the church debt. - Mr Born took no record of those who received the notes, neither did he lay down any conditions about the “investment” of them,. Asked what his reaction would be if members of

his congregation invested their 10s notes on a “two-to-one shot,” Mr Born said: “I would not even know if they did.”—N.Z.F.A.—Reuters.'
