GOLF

Teams Match P.A. NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. 5 Golf of a high standard was witnessed at New Plymouth club’s links at the week-end when a West Coast team comprising Taranaki, King Country, Wanganui and Manawatu players defeated Auckland in an interprovincial match by fifteen games to nine, with three all square. Foursomes were played over eighteen holes, and singles over thirty-six hols. R. H. Glading defeated B. M. Silk four up and three in a match watched by a gallery of between three and four hundred. Glading’s golf was sound rather than brilliant. The West Coast team owed its victory to superiority of the top players, T. and J. Jeffery and J. Holden, who again demonstrated they are formidable opponents on the home course.
