130 Casualties In South China Railway Disaster

(Rec. 9.15) ■ HONG KONG, Sept. 2 At least twenty people were killed xand over one hundred were injured, thirty of them seriously, as the result of the derailment of an express train from Canton to Kowloon, nine miles on the Chinese side of the British border. There were leven coaches on the train. One coach plunged fifty feet into a stream. Two were telescoped, and two more rolled over. There were over a thousand passengers on the train. The derailment is believed to have been due to the track subsidence, following on heavy rains.
