RACING NOTES HOW THEY RAN AT FOXTON
Won Comfortably: Not well placed early and being compelled to make a run round the liela, Conspiracy's effort in taking the Carnarvon Handicap was a good one as he came right away from his fiefd in the straight. Emerge, who ran second, was afways fairly handy, and so was Lord Holland, but Liebestraum’s rourth was outstanding as he was not suited to the turning course, met trouDle twice en route, and then came home very well. The favourite, Hormuz was never dangerous. Broughton In Form: W. J. Broughton had four rides at the meeting, winning on Brenlock, f ull of Fun and Bulaselle. Came Again: Petre Mar endeavoured to win the Robison Handicap all the way, but Full of Fun, who, after being well up early, had • dropped back several places at the three furlongs, was brought along the outer by Broughton and successfully challenged the leader in the straight to win by a length. Zealander came with his usual good finish to get third, and the favourite, Battle Survey, was fourth, vveaKempg a trifle under his weight. All The Way: . Tracer lea throughout the hack steeples for a good win, while Nullah came from about third place at the straight entrance to take a division of the Trial, Brenlock leading throughout the other and just hanging on to oeat Surya's challenge. Impressive: rcoyai Ivloutoa was always in front of the Pataka Hurdles field, winning vvell, and Demure ran on nicely to take the First Wharango Hack after always being in a good position. Trio To Watch: The Awahou Hack had to be divided and Aristea, improved by her race at New Plymouth, took the first quue comfortably after always being handy. The second went to the hot favourite, Bulaselle, who always had the drop in the straight on the pacemaker, The Crofter, though the margin was not a large one. Helenette paid the best price of the day in winning the second Wharangi, though not so much as might haVe been expected m view of her form. It was a close finish with not more than a length between the first five, and perhaps the most striking form was the finishing run of Waimanu in the straight, though it came too late.
Howe At Mentone: Howe was scratched from the Epsom Handicap and Metropolitan Handicap last week. He is to come to Melbourne and will be quartered at S. M Pyper’s stables at Mentone. Other absentees in the Epsom and Metropolitan Handicaps may be Columnist, who is likely to be reserved for weight-for-age races. Proctor, who may be reserved for the Melbourne Cup, and the promising Sydney stayer Stamen, who is “under a cloud.” The present order of favouritism for the two big spring handicaps is:—Epsom Handicap: Heroic Sovereign, Beau Robert, The Diver, Columnist, Deep Sea, Karachi, Denali, De la Salle. Dutchman. Flying Duke, Persian Prince. Metropolitan Handicap: Lvsander, Sir Raven. Stamen, Crusader, Columnist, Paktong. Dark Marne. Doughnut, Karachi. Yamboon, Smooth Action,
