BOYS WORK FOR LOCAL BODY AS COURT SENTENCE

Question Of I.C. & A. Act DUNEDIN, Sept 2. Four Dunedin boys were convicted on charges of mischief by Mr H. W. Bundi, S.M., and by him were ordered to do two day’s work in the city reserves during the school holidays. They carried out the sentences under the direction of the superintendent of reserves. No objection was raised. It was claimed that the boys were carrying out a court sentence and that to suggest they should have become members of the union and receiped pay would be just as ridiculous as to suggest that prisoners during gardening wox’k around the < r aol should be union members and be paid accordingly. It was not stated whether they were insured against accident or whose would be the obligation to< insure them.
