Colour Bar Propped Up by Police Against Henry Wallace

(Rec 9.45) NEW YORK, Sept 1. Mr Henry Wallace abruptly canceled meetings- which he had arranged at Gadsen and at Birmingham in Alabama to-day, when the police erected rope barriers to separate the whites in the audience from the negroes. Earlier, Mr Wallace had had. a peaceful meeting in Decatur, in spite of the fact that there was a lorry load of tomatoes ready to . hand. Mr Wallace in his campaign in the Southern States for the presidency, has had five, of his meetings in the last two days broken up by showers of eggs and tomatoes. Three men in Charlotte were each fined 25 dollars to-day for their part in bombarding Mr Wallace with eggs at his street meeting there yesterday.
