The Riccarton trainer, Mr Hugh Nurse, who has been a good patron of West Coast clubs for a number of years, will be conspicuous by his absence at Reefton on Saturday. Racegoers will regret to learn that Mr Nurse was taken suddenly ill, and hitteam of horses, comprising Kirkella Marut, Love Letter, and Mr Buzz, will now not appear at Reefton or Westport. The only other handicapped horse that failed to m|.ke the payment was Jovial Hour. Night Lap was on the minimum in the Lewis Pass Handicap. The other non-acceptors were novices, and thus were assessed at the standard weights.
