LEAGUE FOOTBALL SPORTS GROUND PROPOSED AT BLAKETOWN

Request to West Coast League The Advance Blaketown League sought financial assistance from the Board of Control of the West Coast Rugby League last night, to form a playing area on McLean Park. Mr N. Messengei' said the League was composed of all sporting bodies in Blaketown, and a ground was badly needed. There was no home ground in the district. ,Mr J. Oakley said that if games could be played oh Sundays it would be a boom affair. He suggested a deputation to the next meeting oi the Advance League to discuss the matter. „ The chairman (Mr B. Connors) said that they should take every interest in the matter. It was decided that Messrs Oakley, B. Ramsay, and T. F. McKenzie attend the meeting of the League and discuss the matter. The following will represent the Brunner senior reserve team to tour Auckland and South Auckland from September 7:- —J. Dando, C. Lee, K. Barber, W. Erskine, P. Williams, D. Dixon, T. Guthberlet, A. Barber, G. Williams, J. Clarke, A. Bernard, J. Harper, B. Creagh, and W. Williams. W. Barber, senior, is manager. Permission was granted the Marist Senior team to play Linwood for the Stuart-Harrison Shield on September 11. The game will be played on Victoria Park. POLIO CASE IN BOYS’ TEAM The manager of the schoolboys’ touring • team (Mr T. Freeman), informed the meeting that the boy now in Christchurch Hospital suffering from infantile paralysis, had complained of a headache while travel ling in the train from Greymouth. “Other boys also complained, but I thqught it was due to the very cold weather,” said Mr Freeman. He added that the boy, who captained the team, played a fair game, and left immediately after for the home at which he was a guest. The boy’s host informed him the next day, that he thought the boy was suffering from influenza, Mr Freeman stated. It was decided to forward a letter of. sympathy to the parents of the boy and a letter of thanks to the people in Christchurch, who billetted him. The Thacker Shield match between Christchurch and Runanga was set down for September 12. The Marist Brothers’ Old Boys’ Club was granted permission to borrow boots and uniforms from the association for the jubilee celebrations.

The Runanga Club was granted permission to use jerseys and socks for the tour of Auckland. The Hokitika Club wrote stating that the League had been misinformed in that there was no representative from the club at the first-aid classes. A junior member was at the first aid class, and seven lower grade players would be attending future classes. The letter was received. Five new members were admitted to the code. • The question of providing trophies —two for the fifth and one for the fourth grades—was deferred until next meeting. Cobden (challengers), at Ngahere, at 2.45 (H. Fisher). Senior Reserve, knock-out replay: Blackball v. Brunner, at Blackball, at 2.45 (L. Kinsella). One-round: Ngahere v. Rapahoe, at Ngahere, 1.15 (C. O’Flaherty); •Lake Brunner v. Runanga. at Te Kinva, 2.45 (T. Freeman); Cobden and Marist byes. Fourth Grade, Knock-out, (Saturday) : Marist v. Kohinoor, at Victoria Park, No. 2, 1.30 (J.
