rßce fi 301 WASHINGTON, Aug. 30 R The operationof the draft began today wit? the registration of about 1 900 000 men of the zb-year age irouD Men from 18 years to 24 years will register by mid-Septemebr, increasing the total 3 whb 9 600 000. Ten thousand of those who registered to-day will enter the army in November. Other army call-ups will be made later. The Navy and Air Force have so fare not requistioned for men, as they expect their needs will be me £ by voluntary enlistments for at least rhe next eighteen months. All men now under-25.years age who served in Second W°r War, are required to register, but are exempted from service. rt+1 _ o „ In New York and several other centres, young men appeared to-day with placards opposing the riraft, biut .•there were no clashes with the police I or military personnel.
