MILITARY GOVERNORS MEETING TO DISCUSS END OF BLOCKADE

Word Sent From Moscow (Rec. 11.40) LONDON, Aug. 31 The Associated Press correspondent at Moscow says: It is authoritatively stated that M. Seydoux, diplomatic adviser to the French Military Governor in Germany, who has advised M. ChataJgneau (French envoy) during Four Power talks at Moscow has left Moscow for Berlin to deliver to the Western Military - Governors a highly important document connected with the Moscow talks. RETURN OF MILITARY GOVERNORS Reuter’s correspondent in Berlin says all four of the military Governors are in Berlin to-day. Sir Brian Robertson has returned by air from Frankfurt this morning. General Clay arrived from Frankfurt last night. General Koenig came from Badenbaden on Sunday evening. Marshal Sokolovsky has been in Berlin for the past few days. THE MEETING (Rec. 11.50) LONDON, Aug. 31 * Reuter’s diplomatic correspondent says: It is reliably learned that the four Allied Military Governors in Germany will meet in Berlin to-day to discuss the currency problem .and also .practical details of the lifting of the Berlin blockade. SOVIET MARK MIGHT OUST THE WESTERNERS ! [N.Z.P.A. —Reuter Cable]. (Received August 31, 11.55 p.m.) BERLIN, August 31. The Russians might use the introduction of the eastern mark as the sole Berlin currency as a “Trojan Horse,” to extend their grip to Western Germany, says the British-licens-ed newspaper “Sozial. Demokrat.” It adds: “A most difficult technical point facing the Military Governors, when they meet, is how to protect Berlin’s Soviet mark under Four Power control from being swamped by the Soviet zone mark. WEST GERMANY'S FUTURE The British and United States Military Governors flew to Frankfurt for conferences, but they are expected to return to Berlin. The German Premiers in the Anglo-American zones asked General Clay and General Sir Brian Robertson (British Military Governor) whether a favourable outcome of the Moscow talks could lead to an Allied request to postpone the West German Constituent Assembly meeting at Bonn on September 1. It is understood the generals replied that they did not see how the outcome of the Kremlin talks could lead to such a request. The German Premiers had been given the responsibility for calling the Assembly and the matter was in their hands. Although Socialist Unity (Left) Party members walked out of a meeting in protest against discussion on the electing of Berlin representatives for the West German Parliamentary Council meeting at Bonn on Wednesday, the remainder of the Berlin elders decided that five delegates from Berlin should attend, £>°" cialist Unity Party members said they could not agree to the Pa^Pa* 1 ™ of Berlin representatives in the Bonn meeting because it would only contribute to splitting Germany. A Berlin city administration snokesman said that Berlin’s, representatives would not ParUcipate £ the Bonn assembly, but would at tend the opening ceremony only aspecial guests. —
