Boxing

At a schoolboys’ boxing tourney at the Theatre Royal on Saturday night, there was a fair crowd of adults and a good many children who were heard throughout heckling schools on competitors. It is to be hoped that parents and teachers will enlighten the youngsters as to the spirit of sportsmanship. People do not all realise the time given by trainers that pay to gain fitness. Some of the boys after weeks of training, take part in as many as four bouts in the evening between 6 and 11.15 p.m. without a meal in between and in fighting as many as a dozen rounds they deserve more than mere barrack. Another point is that the decision of referees should be treated as final.
