Greymouth Schoolboy Contacts Infantile Paralysis
CHRISTCHURCH, Aug 30. A positive case of infantile paralysis was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital on Friday. The patient is a boy, aged 15 years, from Greymouth. Although the Health Department at Christchurch had had no advice yesterday afternoon, enquiries have disclosed that the boy arrived in Christchurch on August 21, with a West Coast schoolboys’ football team. He played a match on the following day, but' was ill on his return to the home where was was billeted. Medical attention was obtained for him almost immediately and he became a suspect for pneumonia and infantile paralysis. His parents were advised and his father visited Christchurch' at the week-end.
increase of Cases At Auckland Hospital P.A. AUCKLAND, August 30. Four more patients in the Auckland Hospital have been diagnosed as positive cases of infantile paralysis. Two of them, a man aged 21, from Newmarket; and a boy aged eight, from Devonport, were previously admitted for other conditions. The others are a girl aged six, from Otahuhu, who was admitted as a suspect case on Friday, and a boy aged 11, from Weymouth, who was admitted as a suspect on Sunday. Two new suspects have also been admitted.
